The Best Times to Fish
Click on the fish for time of the year below. April, May, June and July we get Salmon and Trout. Trout is the season August and September with a few King Salmon mixed in to the summer months. We can also focus on Steelhead offshore if that is your preference. Learn the ins and outs of angling with the help of our experienced captains and crew. Lake Michigan fishing has been part of my life since I worked on my fathers boats starting in 1983. I still love watching kids and adults alike catch their first Lake Michigan Salmon. I fish as much as I can. I can promise you ” A honest effort and a heck of a good time on Lake Michigan.
Kevin Bachner
Captain
Captain Kevin was born to be a Lake Michigan Salmon and Trout Fishing Captain. He won his first major Salmon Tournament in 2007—the 333 Port Championship in Michigan City, Indiana. “I still get goosebumps as the sun rises over the downtown skyline in the morning. I would spend every day on Lake Michigan if possible.
Jeff Ewing

He is a fisherman from birth! He is a 20-year veteran from the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, where he earned the Bronze Star. Capt. Jeff’s passion for fish is intoxicating! He always makes sure to have a good safe time while catching some of the biggest fish in Lake Michigan.
- Know Before You Go
What to Bring
Now that you’ve planned your big fishing trip, it’s time to pack the essentials. Salukis Pride Sportfishing provides all of your fishing gear and equipment, but you need to bring the following:
Cooler
Aside from storing food and drinks, you also need a cooler to transport your fish back home with you. Ask your charter boat captain for the size. Also, don’t forget the ice!
Drinking Water
Your Chicago fishing charter will provide water for your trip. Alcohol is also allowed.
Sunglasses
Bring sunglasses, more specifically polarized fishing glasses, to lessen the sun’s glare reflecting from the water.
Fishing Hat
Protect your head from the sun’s harmful rays.
Jacket or Windbreaker (Optional)
If you are fishing in foul or rainy weather, you may want to bring a lightweight jacket or windbreaker for protection.
Camera
To make your trip even more memorable, bring a camera to take snapshots of your catch or film the beautiful Chicago skyline.
Medicine
If you get seasick easily, it’s wise to take Dramamine® or any motion sickness medicine the night before your trip.
Cash (to Tip)
You probably already paid for the whole trip, but it’s a good habit to bring some money with you so you can tip the First Mate.
Sunscreen
Tanning is best done on the beach, not on a sailboat while fishing. Make sure to tote a sunscreen with you to avoid painful sunburns.
